For anyone that's teaching LDS youth, who wants to help them learn the Seminary Scripture Mastery verses, read on:
I encourage you to download the first basic cardset, and print out the cards. Print out one set for every two kids in your seminary or sunday school class. Have them spend a little time cutting them out while visiting or asking questions. Then teach them the game. Watch the verses come alive as the cards show the meaning of the scriptures. Watch them learn how verses interrelate. Watch them build strategies and have a great time, learning along the way.
This is currently not a commercial venture. It might never become one. Getting art, printing, packaging, and promotion for the necessary cards is a very expensive process. In the meantime, take advantage of a fun opportunity to learn the Scripture Mastery verses without commercializing your seminary classroom.
Once the next set of cards (the cardpages) are complete, I'll be doing a second set based on the Seminary Scripture Mastery series. These will be fully compatible in play with the first set, as well as the mixed cardpage set as well.
There's an additional lesson that can be taught to your seminary kids, above and beyond the scriptures. A card game can be a great metaphor for life. We each come into this life with a deck of cards that Heavenly Father gave us in the Pre-Existence. No two decks are exactly alike. Each one has strong cards and weak cards. Many cards are weak in some circumstances and then turn to show strength in another situation. How well we do in the life to come is dependent on how well we play the cards we have in this life, here and now. And that is all based on our choices.
God gave us one talent, two talents, or five. Will we hand him back ten, four, or the same one we started with? In the biblical parable, the one who gained two on top of his first two got the same reward as the one who gained a total of ten. The only one who lost was the one that didn't play.
So, how will God judge us? Based on how well we play our own deck.
AND, since we don't know what's in each other's decks, we can't know how to judge them, can we? We have to leave that up to the judge of ultimate justice and ultimate mercy. Of us it is required to forgive all men.
Anyway, have fun with the game. When it's all done, come back and tell us how it went. Maybe add some more cards to your set. Suggest a few of your favorite scriptures. Tell us about some cards or rules that don't work so well.
Help us to make a better game, and learn and have fun in the process.
Jump right to the playtester's page, download the game, and have a great time learning your scriptures!
